* Please! Please do NOT interfere with another's live-chat RP. Nothing is ever done without permission and consent. If they pm you to help it stop, tell them to contact an op. Do not interrupt thinking that you might become part of an ongoing story. You'll be integrated at some point.
* Please don't pm anyone when live-chat RP is in progress, except to ask for help which should be done in OOC. If done in channel it would be taken as just part of the scene. Whenever possible, put any non-urgent OOC issues on hold because too many pm's make it hard for anyone not to lose momentum and such interruptions are unpleasant for all of those involved in active play. Often OPs are players themselves so use the board messaging system instead and an op will get back to you ASAP. Note that Louis will be his gruff IC self in private chat too. So proceed at your own risk.
* No ever-idle lurking is allowed! if you're still on -obs after a whole day or two without showing any activity, at least on #BC-OOC where you can ask for extended permission to watch for a longer period which we'll grant), you'll be kicked out and will have to re-enter to confirm actual interest.
* You can join the RP as soon as your character sheet has been approved and moved to "Meet the Characters".
* Please treat others with the respect and courtesy that you would want shown to you. Each player has their unique creative visions and writing style, so please don't think the way you do it is the only way.
* If you don’t like any of what’s going on day after day, then consider that Barbaric-Castle may not be the place for you.
* When frustrated by a play that didn’t go the way you would have expected, or by a bad situation in real life, or by how the room is directed, do not take it out on others in the room. No hasty decision should be taken when emotions and/or frustrations are running high. Before anything, consider taking a break. The first thing to do when you come back is to see if it can be resolved between the players involved, by taking it in #BC-OOC. It has to be “your” own problem or conflict, not one that you perceive in others.
* If the issue doesn't get resolved and no op is active, please copy/paste the disagreement and send it by by forum PM to an op. Note that it's pointless to select one op over another as they consult each other on all issues in order to remain as neutral as possible. You will be promptly contacted or notified of their decision.
* Do not disclose a disagreement to anyone who hasn’t anything to do with it. You might get some sympathy from them but they but can't help one bit in fixing the problem.
* Be mature enough to differentiate between IC (in-character) and OOC (out-of-character). You aren't your character; ohers aren't theirs. Don't take anything personally. There are no losers here. As long as you are expressing your creativity and are enjoying yourself through this challenging exercise of your imagination, you are a winner.
* OOC drama and general nonsense will NOT be tolerated. You don’t like it, just leave it. Past or present conflicts of any kind from other rooms and bad blood between members are none of our business; leave them at the door. And that includes OOC badmouthing in private. Anything that needs resolution, but isn't deemed worth taking to the OOC room, isn't worth anyone else's attention either. You will be warned if you continue, and banned from the channel if you don't abide by the 'no nonsense' rule.
* Decisions taken by admin/ops are final. Do NOT argue. Rule-breakers, drama queens and troublemakers are given 3 chances. 1st offense: a warning is issued in the OOC room or in pm; 2nd: gets a kick; a 3rd offense is final and will result in a ban, most likely a permanent one. Someone who doesn't get the point after the first two warnings most probably never will. Accept what comes to you.
* Cross-gender characters are allowed: this means that if you're male IRL, you're allowed to play a female, ad vice-versa. You are not your character, and other people aren’t their characters either.
* Playing several characters is allowed, but you are invited not to take more of them than you can handle.
* Stay in character as much as possible. You are free to get friendly with others, but have the courtesy to not take offense if some players don't react much to RL stuff. They are free not to do so. Some users come here to escape the everyday grind and don’t wish to get involved with other people’s RL. This channel isn't a place to seek volunteer online counselors, psychologists or doctors; that is what other social media like Facebook are there for.
* BC isn't a a place to flirt. We don't mind in-play relationships at all, but if you end up only being involved in play with the same person over and over,, it is highly frustrating to others and you will both be issued a warning.
* Spelling matters. Do your best.
* We don't mind one-liners and we don't have minimum/maximum post length requirements in either live-chat and message board.
* No god-modding! Your character cannot read minds, so don’t use OOC information (stuff that you know as a typist because it has been shared out of play with you by another typist) in play unless it has previously been agreed upon by the involved parties.
If another player should be surprised at something, let them post it, not you. You should even post that you were 'upset by the pain on her face.' Let them tell what they feel.
* No power gaming. In other words do not try to steer play or a character’s action to befit your own storyline; and do not post another characters actions for them. Your character can’t win all the time. No one enjoys playing with a sore loser.
* Avoid highly anachronistic or improbable characters - cowboys, exaggerated wall-climbing ninjas, or miraculous, super-heroic immunity, as well as their paraphernalia (guns, Star Wars laser swords...! and so on). Moderate realism is a must. For example, Xena-type princess warrior types don't exist, and a villager cannot know everything from the virtues of wolfs bane to trigonometry; oh, and bread mold doesn’t heal everything. For the rest, there’s no need to be a History buff: OK, so common things like coffee and potatoes don't exist in Europe yet, but don’t worry about it, just jump in and do your best. We won't bite (well, not too hard at least). You’ll be assisted if needed.
We will post a list of common foods and drinks, and some common words or actions of that time.
* The destruction or modification of the role play environment is forbidden. In other words, don't make anything up that isn’t already there (for example, the cliché secret passage which not even the castle owner knew existed... Please don't pull that one out of your hat). When in doubt, check out the descriptions.You could repair or add a new curtain wall to the castle, but not add a lounging porch.
* As much as possible, avoid abruptly dropping off from any ongoing RP you’re involved in without warning. Unless it’s an unintentional disconnection, it’s rude to other players. Try to at least fit in a hasty departure line to make it more natural an allow others to see you withdraw (example: X is called off by the cook to get her chores done. Y must now go to his guard duties.)
* If you need to be inactive for a while in live-chat, please add -AFK (away from keyboard) or the equivalent to your nickname.
* No multi-channeling will be allowed. Roleplay takes your full attention if it is going to be fun for everyone.
An exception might be if you need to watch an inactive channel. You will be warned and kicked if we find you playing in multiple channels.
* New or recently created characters are not allowed to join out of the blue and wreak havoc, or challenge the leader's authority with an army, a rivaling noble, or whatever. Such a storyline is a plot event that affects the whole room, so take a minute to share at least the basics in #BC-OOC of any idea you might have that would involve such a possible major group event. This is only to make sure that what looks like a great improvisation at first doesn’t end up being a frustrating mess. These need some proper attention, time and minimal planning to be fun for all.
* Be patient. Real life comes first and some of us are more often than not forced to multi-task while playing. FFRP is a very demanding activity. It requires a high level of emotional maturity on the part of the players, so we require that you leave any other room you’re in.

* Don't expect the channel founder and/or any other central character to be involved in every storyline.
* If you're feeling ignored, be patient and don't take it out on others, and do try your best to work your way in. FFRP isn't perfect. We don't want whiners.
* Don't be a BC martyr, i.e. coming up with this OOC gem: "I'll just leave and won't bother you again". Well, it's exactly what it does. It does bother us. No one needs to feel guilty if you aren't happy here. Just leave without the fuss.
