This channel has been made for relaxation and enjoyment. It has also been started for those who have an interest in both history and writing, as well as 'acting' out' a character of your making in a real time setting. The following are suggestions to make our play more enjoyable for all:
A. The OOC channel is for players to get to know one another better, to talk about storylines and goals, to work out any problems in an adult discussion, and to help new players develop characters and understand the setting.
B. The OOC channel is NOT to be used to gossip or to flame other people or other channels. Let's all work on this aspect together.
C: The regular channel is to be used for roleplay only. Remember that we are simply playing characters and characters have nothing to do with our real life personas. Please do not attribute something said or done by a character as something done to you by the character's typist. Often it is hard to separate the two, so if you have trouble in this area just step back for awhile until you can find the right perspective.
D: We all say and do things through our characters that we'd never do in real life, and even in OOC things can be taken the wrong way. Everyone has good and bad days, and so often because something has happened to us, be it illness, emotional or physical pain, stress, or fatigue, we say things or interpret things that weren't made to come out as they did. It's so easy to react quickly and soon feelings are hurt, people take sides, or possibly just leave. To try and keep OOC free of drama or arguments we will try the following:
1. If you have a problem with another player it will be taken care of in #BTP_OPS with the two players and an op. Casting blame, calling people names, and such behavior will not be tolerated. If you are too angry to negotiate as a calm, sane adult then leave the channel for 24 hours. After that time we will try to work things out again in the above channel.
2. We will try to have an OOC meeting every other Monday afternoon at 7PM ET. If there are topics you'd like to discuss at that time tell an OP beforehand. These meetings will be orderly, hopefully be done quickly, and be enjoyable for everyone. After things have been decided in the OOC meeting there will be no second guessing or asking for another option, especially if it has already been discussed. There will no airing of past 'dirty laundry'. If a player is not happy with the outcome they can either discuss it in a private meeting with the ops (though the outcome most likely won't change), or leave the channel. If a meeting is needed before the next scheduled one it can be called by the Ops.
3. If you feel you've been hurt by another player in the past or present, it might be a good idea to have arbitration in the #BTP_OPS channel with the two players and two ops in attendance. Each person will have a chance to air their side without interruption, then each will be given a chance to respond. This will be done to clear the air, make sure both sides understand the problem, and hopefully heal hurts. The Ops will be referees and will not take sides.
E. Finally, please try to limit PM's. Say all your hellos, goodbyes, welcome and welcome backs, and such things in the OOC channel. In other words, keep all modern day conversation out of the channel. Talking about a joint storyline can be done in pm, but if there are disagreements, air them in public or with an op. We ask that gossip and such not be done in pm. The reasons for limiting pm's are these:
1. Many of us play more than one character at a time. It is nerve wracking to try and keep the play going with your characters while trying to answer pm's, many of which could be asked and answered in ooc. If the channel isn't busy, then fine, but when play is active please be considerate enough not to pm other players.
2. For some players English is their second language, though often their spelling and grammar are better than English-speaking players. It is hard to keep up with play if they are getting many pm's.
If you are a new player you can ask questions in OOC before pm'ing an op.
Remember...we are all here to have fun, relax, and enjoy socializing. We are also here to gain knowledge and hone our writing skills.
