First and foremost, always remember what roleplay is about: you're here to play a character, not yourself, and so are the other users! BC is an imaginary universe. So the keyword here is: "what if...?"
All you need is the attraction and imagination! There is a wide variety of characters you can select from. Here are basic suggestions to help you getting started : local crofters, peasants, foresters, artisans (jewelers, bakers, herborists, etc.), outlaws, people of the cloth, officials (sheriff, provost, etc.), guards, warriors, mercenaries, clan leaders or warlords; residents of the keep - for instance a cook or a healer (see Wanted Characters ) , minstrels, pilgrims, mechants, travelers, foreign nobles. If you have any other idea, don’t hesitate to submit it.
Please contact an admin for restricted characters such as castle servants or prisoners.
Keep in mind that travel in the sparsely populated Highlands was very difficult due to few and bad roads, poor land and climate, so there most likely weren't that many foreigners. Local races consisted mostly in Scots, Picts, Angles, Britons, Vikings and Normans; others were exceptional.
Once you've chosen what you'd like to be, choose a nickname fitting the 8th century. They're easy to find online. If you won't pick a Dark Ages nick then Hawkfurth, the lord's guard, or an op will choose one for you.
Take your time to make up a character that you will use only for this channel and forum. You don't need to build anything complex yet: just relax and have fun. The key question is: "What would I enjoy playing here?" As soon as you've got your idea, as sketchy as it may be, fill up a character sheet and post it here . As soon as it's approved, it will be moved to "Meet the Characters' and you'll be all set to join the live-chat, with -obs added to your nick or not, the choice will be yours. Don't worry if you can't fill all of your sheet up yet: you can develop the deeper aspects as you play and fill your sheet up along the way.
You may also choose a picture, not an avatar, to represent your character.
Continue to work on developing your character. This is for both male residents, guests, and servants. It can grow and change, but make it different from the real you. You can be gorgeous, or handsome or ugly, sweet or gruff, a shy maiden or a brash merchant. React to things as your character would, not the real you.
Remember that characters change and evolve. At starting point, your character’s presentation doesn’t have to be as detailed as those of key characters or of older members. Your profile can be modified at will.
Remember, this is roleplay. When someone is rude or mean to you, it is just their character. If you are ignored, do not take it personally. Others may have been playing before you came in and when they finish you will be included.
